This policy explains what information Beyond the Chatbox collects when you visit or interact with this site, and how that information is used.
Who we are
Our website address is: https://beyondthechatbox.com.
Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form — your name, email address, website (if provided), and the comment text — along with your IP address and browser user agent string, to help detect spam. We use Akismet to automatically filter spam comments; see Akismet’s privacy policy for details: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile photo is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the site, avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you can opt in to save your name, email address, and website in a cookie so you don’t have to re-enter that information the next time you comment. These cookies last one year.
If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
This site does not currently use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. If that changes, we’ll update this policy.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content — for example, YouTube videos. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you are logged into an account on that site.
Who we share your data with
We use Akismet (by Automattic) to check comments for spam, which involves sending comment data to Akismet’s servers. We don’t share your data with any other third parties.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
This site does not currently offer visitor account registration.
What rights you have over your data
If you’ve left a comment on this site, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it. This doesn’t include data we’re required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To make a request, contact us at beyondthechatbox@gmail.com.
Where your data is sent
Comments may be checked through Akismet’s automated spam detection service, which may involve sending comment data outside your country.
How we protect your data
This site is served over HTTPS. We use security and backup measures to help keep the site and its data secure. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
